What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is an effective approach to dealing with damaged or deteriorated teeth. Unlike traditional dental fillings, which are used to treat decay in the outer layers of the tooth, root canal treatments address infection or damage on the inside of the tooth, restoring its health and strength so you can chew and smile with confidence. Using the latest technologies and methods, our team at Eastern Shore Endodontics offers comprehensive endodontic care, including root canal treatments, for patients in and around Daphne, AL. Led by Dr. Tres Manasco, a root canal specialist who has performed thousands of procedures over the course of his career, we specialize in helping patients find relief from dental discomfort. Schedule a consultation at Eastern Shore Endodontics today to learn more about our advanced approach to root canal therapy.
What Can I Expect After A Root Canal?
Following your root canal, it's normal to experience some sensitivity or mild discomfort in the treated area for a few days. This can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. You should avoid chewing on the treated tooth until you receive a restoration to prevent it from fracturing. It's also crucial to maintain good oral hygiene, brushing and flossing as you normally would to keep the area clean. Most patients can return to their daily activities the following day. Dr. Manasco will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery.
How Is A Root Canal Procedure Performed?
We perform root canal treatments at our Daphne, AL office using local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. If you have special considerations (like dental anxiety), we also offer nitrous oxide sedation to help you stay relaxed without putting you to sleep. After the anesthesia is administered, Dr. Manasco will create a small opening in the tooth to gain access to the inner pulp chamber, where the nerves and blood vessels are found. He'll clean this area to remove signs of dental infection before sealing it off with a temporary crown to prevent further damage. The process usually takes 1 – 2 hours and is generally comfortable, thanks to the anesthesia. Afterward, you may have some mild discomfort, which can be managed with ibuprofen or other over-the-counter medicines. Full root canal recovery can take several days to weeks, depending on the severity of the damage. Once the tooth has healed, you'll return to your regular dentist, who will finish your treatment with a permanent crown or restoration.
What Are the Benefits of Root Canals?
Root canal treatment offers several key benefits, making it an effective way to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted. Some of these benefits include:
- Can help save a decayed tooth from extraction
- Prevents the spread of dental infection
- Restores the structure and strength of the tooth
- Alleviates tooth pain
- Minimizes the need for more complex treatments
Am I A Candidate For A Root Canal?
Root canal therapy is typically recommended for individuals experiencing an infection or inflammation within the pulp of the tooth, often due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, cracks, or trauma to the tooth. Common signs include severe toothache, sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, tenderness when chewing or touching the tooth, discoloration of the tooth, and swelling or tenderness in the nearby gums. During your consultation at Eastern Shore Endodontics, Dr. Manasco will conduct a thorough examination, including X-rays, to accurately determine if root canal treatment is the most appropriate course of action.
Root Canal Reviews
I recently went to Eastern Shore Endodontic's for a root canal. As you can imagine, this isn’t the most pleasant experience to have do for your health, but would definitely recommend Dr. Tres Manasco and his staff were all very professional, helpful, and answered all my questions and concerns to put me at ease.
I dont like leaving a review because Im lazy to write, and my english is not good. But Dr. Manasco deserved my 5 star review, if I can leave more 5 star I would. He is great , very professional. His team are very sweet and accommodating. I was very nervous for my 14 year old daugther needs a root canal, but he explained to me everything what he will do to my daughter , after he checked, he said my daughter don't need a root canal, he do something differently. I was very happy. Thank you so much Dr. MANASCO.The thing amazed me , he personally called me couple hours after the appointment how's my daughter doing.I highly recommend him to anybody. He is one of the best endodontics!!! ❤️
No one looks forward to a root canal! However Dr Manasco and his Staff made the experience as tolerable as possible! I had an unusual situation in that the tooth was part of a bridge and they were able to save the bridge so hopefully I won’t have to get a new one. However, what impressed me the most was the Dr called me that evening to check on me to see how the tooth was doing.
From Nellie Gardner I had an appointment to have a root canal done. I was afraid It was going to hurt but he put me in these and made sure I was very comfortable doing a whole procedure I quite enjoyed relaxation of having a root canal done if they're such thing as a relaxation in having a root canal done I did at no point did he hurt me I will use him again and I think the doctor for all his concern he even called me after procedure was over to make sure I was comfortable Thank you doctor

Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a crown after a root canal if the infection has already been removed?
After a root canal, your tooth is no longer living and becomes more brittle over time. Placing a crown helps protect the tooth from cracking or breaking under daily chewing forces, especially for molars and premolars that handle heavier biting pressure. Without a crown, the treated tooth is at higher risk for fracture, which could lead to further treatment or even extraction down the line.
Is it normal to still feel some discomfort or sensitivity weeks after a root canal?
Mild lingering discomfort is common as the surrounding tissues continue to heal, especially if your tooth was severely infected beforehand. However, pain should gradually improve rather than worsen. If you experience increasing pain, swelling, or sensitivity to biting weeks after your procedure, it’s important to contact our office as soon as possible, as this could indicate a residual infection or another issue requiring evaluation.
Can a root canal fail even if it was done correctly the first time?
Although modern root canal treatments have a high success rate, failures can still occur. This might happen due to undetected canal anatomy, new decay exposing the filling, cracks in the tooth, or bacterial leakage over time. Still, most root canals performed properly by an experienced endodontic specialist are successful and provide permanent results you can count on.
