What Is Dental Post Removal?
A dental post is a small rod placed inside the hollow canal of a tooth after a root canal to provide structure and support in cases of severe damage or decay. If the tooth becomes infected again, or if the post shifts out of place, our team at Eastern Shore Endodontics may recommend post removal to address the issue. With more than 25 years of specialized endodontic experience, Dr. Tres Manasco has helped thousands of patients restore the function and appeal of their smiles with personalized, compassionate care. If you're experiencing persistent discomfort or infection after a root canal, or if you've noticed a loose crown, contact our office in Daphne, AL to learn about your options for dental post removal.
What Is the Post Removal Process?
Before performing your treatment, we'll perform a comprehensive examination using our office's state-of-the-art digital imaging equipment to get the clearest picture of your dental structures. Post removal can be a fairly complex procedure, but these images will allow Dr. Manasco to plan your treatment with precision. Before starting, we'll numb the area and (if needed) administer nitrous oxide to help you keep comfortable throughout your appointment. When you're ready, he'll make incisions or drill to access the post, which will be loosened and extracted with specialized tools. Once the area is clear, he'll clean out any infection and add filler or a crown to strengthen the tooth before sealing it.
Post removal usually takes 30 – 60 minutes. Afterward, you may have mild soreness or swelling around the area — this is normal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.
What Are the Benefits of Post Removal?
The benefits of post removal for your oral health are significant, especially when you're having problems with a previously treated tooth. Some of the key benefits of dental post removal at our Daphne, AL office include:
- Addresses existing infection while reducing the risk of further damage
- Prepares the tooth for further treatment, such as endodontic retreatment
- Prevents complications stemming from a broken or loose dental post
- Improves the strength and function of the tooth
- Can prevent the need for extraction or other invasive procedures
Eastern Shore Endodontics Reviews
Just wanted to give Eastern Shore Endodontics a big shoutout for taking care of me Wednesday! It was my 1st time being there and they took care of me like I’ve been going there for years!
Dr Manasco and his team were beyond outstanding. They worked in perfect union. I've never been to an endodontist before, but have been to the dentist countless times in my 70 years. I would not hesitate to return for any future work. Gentle, compassionate, informed me as he proceeded through the procedure. The next day, I literally couldn't feel that I had work done! Not even a little soreness! Bravo team Manasco!
My experience was excellent!!! The entire staff and doctor were pleasant and understanding. Dr. Manasco took the time to go over xrays and explain what he was doing before and after. He even took the time to place a follow-up call after the procedure to make sure I was doing fineI would highly recommend Eastern Sore Endodontics
Amazing all around. Office staff and nurse were great. Dr Manasco is wonderful. Even followed up with me the night of the procedure. Highly recommend!
So far, I’m very pleased with the results. However, I was truly blown away by the reception, the patient care, and above all, with Dr. Manasco. Rather than simply a consultation and scheduling the procedure for days later, having an opening then, he immediately did the root canal for my painful, fractured tooth. He explained what he was doing throughout the procedure and then even called later that evening to check on me. For this 61 year old guy, this was all something that I hadn’t experienced in literally decades.
