What Is Resorption Repair?
Tooth resorption is a condition that occurs when the body's immune system breaks down and absorbs the roots or pulp of a tooth. The most common causes of tooth resorption include injury, infection, or orthodontic treatment. If left untreated, tooth resorption can cause severe problems over months and years, leading to pain, infection, and tooth loss. At Eastern Shore Endodontics, Dr. Tres Manasco specializes in advanced endodontic treatments, including resorption repair, to help patients enjoy stronger, healthier smiles. If you're experiencing persistent dull pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, or spreading discomfort in your gums, we urge you to schedule an endodontic exam at our Daphne, AL office as soon as possible to protect your smile from infection. Early detection and treatment are crucial when it comes to addressing tooth or root resorption — our team is here to help.
How Is Tooth Resorption Treatment Performed?
During your consultation, we'll examine your mouth and take detailed digital x-rays to assess the location and extent of the resorption. Dr. Manasco will use these impressions to map out your treatment for better results. The most common approach to resorption repair is root canal therapy, which involves accessing the inner pulp of the tooth to remove infection and prevent further breakdown. After cleaning out the tooth, Dr. Manasco will fill it to provide strength before sealing it. Your dentist will continue to monitor the area after your resorption repair to check on your recovery and spot infection if it reoccurs.
For more severe cases of dental bone resorption, we may recommend oral surgery to clean the tooth and restore function. We'll discuss what you can expect during your visit to our Daphne, AL practice.

Eastern Shore Endodontics Reviews
Just wanted to give Eastern Shore Endodontics a big shoutout for taking care of me Wednesday! It was my 1st time being there and they took care of me like I’ve been going there for years!
Dr Manasco and his team were beyond outstanding. They worked in perfect union. I've never been to an endodontist before, but have been to the dentist countless times in my 70 years. I would not hesitate to return for any future work. Gentle, compassionate, informed me as he proceeded through the procedure. The next day, I literally couldn't feel that I had work done! Not even a little soreness! Bravo team Manasco!
My experience was excellent!!! The entire staff and doctor were pleasant and understanding. Dr. Manasco took the time to go over xrays and explain what he was doing before and after. He even took the time to place a follow-up call after the procedure to make sure I was doing fineI would highly recommend Eastern Sore Endodontics
Amazing all around. Office staff and nurse were great. Dr Manasco is wonderful. Even followed up with me the night of the procedure. Highly recommend!
So far, I’m very pleased with the results. However, I was truly blown away by the reception, the patient care, and above all, with Dr. Manasco. Rather than simply a consultation and scheduling the procedure for days later, having an opening then, he immediately did the root canal for my painful, fractured tooth. He explained what he was doing throughout the procedure and then even called later that evening to check on me. For this 61 year old guy, this was all something that I hadn’t experienced in literally decades.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can tooth resorption be stopped without treatment, or does it always require intervention?
Tooth resorption rarely stops on its own. Because it’s an active process where your body breaks down tooth structure, it usually progresses if left untreated, eventually compromising the entire tooth. Early intervention with procedures like root canal therapy can remove the affected tissue, halt further damage, and preserve your tooth. Without treatment, resorption often leads to pain, infection, and the need for extraction.
How do I know if my tooth resorption is internal or external, and does it change the treatment I will need?
Internal resorption starts within the tooth’s pulp chamber, while external resorption affects the outer root surface or surrounding bone. Our endodontists will use digital x-rays and clinical exams to determine the type and extent. Treatment differs slightly for interval vs. external tooth resorption. Internal resorption often requires root canal therapy to clean out and fill the area, whereas external resorption may need a combination of endodontic treatment and surgical repair if the damage extends to the surrounding bone or gum tissue.
What is recovery like after resorption repair?
Recovery after resorption repair is similar to that of a standard root canal, with mild soreness for a few days that can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. In severe cases involving surgical repair, recovery may include additional swelling and require a longer healing period. Follow-up appointments are important, during which time our endodontists will monitor the treated area for signs of continued resorption or infection to ensure the tooth remains stable and functional long term.
